The English soul icon brings his feel good hits to US shores
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, but raised in England, pop music superstar Leslie Sebastian Charles grew up listening to calypso, soul and rock, and it wasn't long before he was making his own stamp on the contemporary R&B genre. After adopting the moniker Billy Ocean in 1975, the iconic performer cemented his place on the musical landscape with a string of international hits in the 80s including Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run), Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car, and Suddenly.
Ever present throughout the '70s and '80s, the Commodores were able to switch in the blink of an eye from driving funk get-downs to soaring balladry. Led for much of their commercial peak by Lionel Richie, the group notched up seven Number One singles, millions of record sales and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
